In the realm of adolescent development, mentorship stands as the linchpin, molding individuals into well-rounded, resilient beings. Brownell Talbot proudly champions this belief, and put this belief into action by working with SheMate this semester. SheMate, an organization at the forefront of holistic growth for high school students, connects their nationwide community of college, professional, Olympic, and Paralympic women athletes with adolescents in virtual mentoring and wellness groups.

BT's volleyball girls just completed a five-week program, drawing wisdom from accomplished role models merely a few steps ahead of them in life in partnership with SheMate. The athletes had conversations with student athletes from Georgetown, Vanderbilt, Texas Tech, Ohio State, West Virginia, Columbia, Providence, Missouri, Elon, Wisconsin, and the Paralympics. Conversations typically surrounded around self-talk, balancing responsibilities, handling pressure, and preparing for life after high school.

In virtual synchronous dialogues moderated by group facilitators, BT's volleyball team interacted in lively, practical conversations on real-time challenges. These sessions yielded tangible takeaways, from growing a perseverance mindset to honing emotional resilience strategies and determining ways to tackle overwhelming moments. The BT's students' participation is marked by diligence, insightful questioning, and profound respect for SheMate mentors and facilitators. Their dedication not only exemplifies a thirst for personal growth but also highlights their genuine interest in maximizing the mentoring process.

Driven by its mission to bridge the gap between physical and mental wellness, SheMate emerges as a beacon of empowerment for adolescents. Its focus on virtual synchronous interactive dialogue and wellness groups, led by successful women only a few steps ahead of their mentees, addresses the critical need for comprehensive personal development. The partnership between SheMate and Brownell Talbot exemplifies the potential of this approach, supplementing traditional education with mentorship that empowers adolescents academically and in life.

As the final SheMate session concludes with the Brownell Talbot volleyball team, the success of this mentorship series stands as a testament to the transformative power of positive role modeling and community support. Looking ahead, it is evident that the experience has profoundly affected everyone involved.

Given the tremendous benefits witnessed during this mentorship program, BT and SheMate look forward to additional mentoring and wellness work together.
