Raiders Club Swim Team Wins 34 of 52 Events at First Home Meet

The Raiders Club Swim Team had an impressive evening at the Friday Night at the Races hosted by Brownell Talbot this past Friday. The meet marked the first home competition of the 2023-2024 Short Course Season, and the Raiders did not disappoint. Out of the 52 events that took place, they secured an impressive 34 victories.

The standout BT swimmers of the evening were Mikey Levell, '34, Mia Schergin, '31, Madeline Wallace, '29, Kaylee Zhang, '29, Ingrid Nelson, '25, James Reed, '32, Kellan Grant,' 30, Sai Saxena, '31, Layne Nichols, '31. These talented individuals claimed first place finishes in various events, showcasing their immense talent and contributing significantly to the team's success.

Two team records were shattered during the event, adding further glory to their performance. Schergin broke the 2018 team record in the 500-yard freestyle event. Schergin completed the race in an impressive time of 6:42.70, surpassing the previous record of 7:35.47. Additionally, she lowered her own team record in the 200-yard individual medley, further solidifying her dominance in the pool.

The Raiders' success continued with 10 automatic Midwestern Championship qualifying times by Schergin, Reed, Royce Li, '32, Nichols, Barrett Holm, '32, and MWS Secondary Championship qualifying times by Sadie Levell, '32, Olivia Bradford, '31, Wallace, Viviene Rhule, '32, Bailey Benjamin, '32, Zhang, Nelson,  and Holm. 

With such a strong start to the season, the Raiders are poised for further triumphs in the upcoming competitions.
