Hoyt House has introduced a new recycling system to the BT campus. Through their service learning project, they aspire to bring more environmentally friendly systems into campus life. They started brainstorming in the fall of 2023 about what they could do to improve our environment. They concluded that reintroducing an inclusive recycling system to our campus would be an important thing that would have a positive effect.
Hoyt House urges students, faculty, staff, families, and visitors to recognize the importance of recycling by actively participating. Do this by… RECYCLING! Our recycling bins are separated into bins accepting limited plastic bottles (caps do not need to be removed) and aluminum cans. There are separate bins designated for strictly (unsoiled) paper. Recycling bins are clearly labeled, indicating what may be put in the specific bin. This needs specific work in the lunch room and being mindful in the rush to get to our next part of the day. These bins can hold both bottles and cans now. We thank you for your active participation in the past, present, and future.
This recycling system service project aligns with the Hoyt House's community service and environmental responsibility values. It provides an excellent opportunity for our students to develop leadership skills, teamwork, and a sense of civic duty. To institute these new recycling policies we are partnering with Duet, a community-based service system program serving people who experience developmental and intellectual disabilities, through their Cares recycling facilities. This project is significant as we strive to contribute positively to our environment and foster sustainable practices within our community.
We thank you for your continued support in introducing a positive environmental change into BT's campus.
