History teacher Amber Straka has been selected for the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Landmarks of American History workshop, "Grand Coulee Dam: The Intersection of Modernity and Indigenous Cultures," happening in Spokane in July 2024. This highly competitive program receives hundreds of applications nationwide, with only 60 educators from across the country granted the opportunity to attend. Over the course of one week, Mrs. Straka will engage in an immersive exploration of the multifaceted narratives surrounding the Grand Coulee Dam, analyzing its impact on both modernity and indigenous cultures. Through expert-led discussions, site visits, and hands-on engagement with historical resources, Mrs. Straka will gain invaluable insights to enhance her teaching methodologies.

By delving into the complexities of this landmark, she aims to deepen her students' understanding of American history and foster critical thinking skills in the classroom.
