The end of October is full of celebrations at Brownell Talbot:

Trunk or Treat: October 25 - host a trunk and pre-order pizzas and cookie kits

Halloween: October 31

  • Lower School Parade: 8:00 am, Scott Gymnasium - parents are invited to watch Lower School students parade in their Halloween best!
  • Lower School Classroom Parties: October 31: parties are organized by classroom parents
  • Middle School: Students will have a Halloween costume contest during lunch
  • Upper School: students will have Halloween activities and fun throughout the day

Halloween is a fun holiday at Brownell Talbot. The incredible spirit and creativity of our students comes alive and it is a wonderful opportunity to witness the cross-age benefits of being part of a K12 school as our older students create memories for our younger students.

Choosing a Costume

All grades are invited to wear costumes on Thursday, October 31.

Costumes:

  • Must not restrict students from school-day activities.
  • Full masks may not be worn.
  • Must not have any inappropriate or disturbing graphic words/images.
  • There should be no weapons as part of a costume.

For our youngest students, please consider these questions:

  • Can my child move comfortably all morning in this costume?
  • Can my child independently use the restroom while wearing this costume?
  • Can my child sit on the floor or at the table in this costume?

In a community like ours, where integrity, compassion, responsibility, and respect are essential, it is important to be sensitive to others when choosing a costume. One may choose to wear an outfit that is, in fact, not a costume at all for someone in another culture. When choosing a costume, please consider the following:

  • Does this costume promote a stereotype?
  • Does this costume promote laughter or disrespect toward a cultural group?
  • Does this costume use something sacred in a culture outside my own as an accessory (such as a headdress, a hijab, or a bindi)?

Students are not required to wear a costume for Halloween. Instead, they may simply come dressed in appropriate free dress.
