A contingent of BT theatre students represented Brownell Talbot Theatre and Nebraska at The Fringe in Edinburgh with their performances of The Sleeping Beau, a BT student-created production.

The expectation of the theatre team was that of a professional touring company, and the students did not disappoint. Theatre director Jenn Morgan shared the following insights into the trip:

They are alway 15 minutes early, always left thing better than they found it, strived to be kind to all, and showed respect and gratitude beyond their years.

We had 90 minutes for our tech rehearsal - setting up props, set, programming lights and sound, practicing entrances and exits on ramps and stairs, setting sound levels for all 12 performers, practicing falls, and doing a mini cue to cue. The students did it with grace, efficiency, and stayed on schedule.

We had 10 minutes before each show from the time we entered, to the time curtain went up to: get the set in place, get 12 mikes on 12 performers, check sound, get props in place, get all cues ready, and warm up. Our students never started a show late.

As our students buskered on the royal Mile, they literally stopped traffic when they burst into song. The adventures they had, the inclusiveness, the grace they afforded each other, was a shining example to all other schools present and any other humans they met. Each one understood the essentialness of the role in the production. It was rather perfect. The enrichment opportunities were amazing and they just embraced each one of them.

Thank you for supporting this group of artists as they performed their truth on stage in Scotland. We are blessed to have such talent, and even more important, such incredible young humans. They stood out to all of the students and adult attending for their compassion, and support of other schools. Thus they were presented a special award - The Royal Crown Award - for not only their story telling, but  also the kind and professional manner in which they conducted themselves.
