In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and his call to service, BT faculty and staff, JuSTEMagine volunteers and students in grades 2-4 and their parents participated in BT's Service through STEM event on Monday. The Lower School students partnered with the JuSTEMagine members to complete their own STEM activities and then package STEM kits developed by Prairie STEM. The kits will ultimately be sent to schools in India to support access to STEM education.

More about Event Partners

Brownell Talbot Science Department

Brownell Talbot has been voted Best STEM High School in Nebraska for three years in a row. If they gave an award for best STEM Lower or Middle School, we believe we'd win those as well because of our vertical integration of the science department curricula. For example, a Middle School science class may refer back to an experiment that was done in third grade and then in Upper School, the students deepen their understanding through new lessons that reiterate and expand on those two previous experiences.

At BT, students have multiple hours of instruction per week with a dedicated science teacher beginning in kindergarten. Because we employ a trained Lower School science teacher, Lower School science uses materials and sensors that would not typically be available at the elementary school level. BT students are then familiar with and better prepared to use these tools in Middle and Upper School science.

Across the board, our science teachers stay current on methods, ideas, and terminology, so that as a whole, we are consistently representing best practices in their science fields today.
