On Tuesday, September 17, Brownell Talbot College Preparatory School marks a significant milestone in its illustrious history, celebrating its 161st anniversary. The school, which has been at its current campus for 101 years, continues to uphold its legacy of educational excellence while embracing innovation for the future.

Founded in 1863, four years before Nebraska achieved statehood, Brownell Talbot has not only endured but thrived, continuously adapting its mission to meet the evolving needs of students. Throughout its history, Brownell Talbot has been at the forefront of educational advancements. From witnessing the early days of electricity to holding Nebraska's first high school commencement in 1868, the school has consistently been a pioneer. This tradition of innovation continues today, with students embracing cutting-edge technology and global perspectives.

"Our focus is on preparing students for the complex, interconnected world they will inherit," Dr. Gibbs explains. "We're committed to fostering empowered, determined, and confident individuals who are ready to make a positive impact globally."

As the only independent school in Nebraska, Brownell Talbot takes pride in its unique position. The school's longevity is attributed to its exceptional community - dedicated faculty and staff, talented students, supportive families, an engaged Board of Trustees, and a strong alumni network.

Looking to the future, Brownell Talbot is not only committed to its legacy of excellence but is also embarking on an ambitious campus transformation. The school is undergoing a campus transformation, a comprehensive initiative aimed at revolutionizing the campus infrastructure to meet the evolving needs of 21st-century education.

"Building Together is more than just about updating facilities," Dr. Gibbs explains. "It's about creating innovative learning spaces that will inspire creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. This transformation will ensure that Brownell Talbot remains at the forefront of educational excellence for generations to come."

The new facilities includes plans for:

  • A new Lower and Middle School gymnasium that can accommodate practices, competitions, and performances for all grades.
  • A welcoming new main entrance, including advanced school security features and a bright, open atrium and visitor center.
  • A renovated dining hall to help with lunch-time flow and to facilitate social interaction.
  • The latest in technology, HVAC, mechanical, and telecommunications upgrades to ensure a comfortable, safe, and secure environment for both students

These improvements are designed to support the school's forward-thinking curriculum and provide students with the tools they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
